This limited-edition collection pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice demonstrated during Operation MARKET GARDEN.  After the successes of D-Day and the rapid liberation of Paris on 25 August 1944, the Allied forces pushed on and liberated Brussels (3 Sept 44) and Antwerp (4 Sept 44). A few days later, the Allies reached the southern Netherlands but had exhausted their supply lines.

To liberate the rest of the Netherlands and to ensure a rapid advance into the heart of Nazi Germany, Field Marshal Montgomery devised operation 'MARKET GARDEN’. A two-part plan, the first called: 'MARKET’, involved dropping more than 35,000 airborne troops to capture and hold important bridges over the Maas, Waal and Rhine. The second, called 'GARDEN’, was the link up of ground troops from British XXX Corps.  The outcome was designed to be a lodgement from which to push on to the rest of the Netherlands and Germany.

As with our previous limited edition boxes, we ensure that they contribute to meaningful support of the military community.  With every purchase of this MARKET GARDEN collection, we pledge to donate 20% of the price to support the Air Despatch Association. During MARKET GARDEN, Air Despatchers saw a disproportionately high casualty rate and were considered to be the unsung heroes of the operation.  Your indulgence will directly contribute to helping serving Air Despatch soldiers, veterans and their families. The legacy of aerial delivery continues with today's Air Despatchers braving hostile environments to deliver military supplies and humanitarian aid across the globe.

Each hand-crafted chocolate has been flavoured and coloured to reflect the units involved in the daring actions of MARKET GARDEN.

MARKET

This salted caramel chocolate celebrates the shattering effect of the coups-de-main operations of the 35,000 allied airborne forces to capture the 5 bridges. The colouring reflects the fractures created in the German defences;

GARDEN

Our apple strudel bonbon, adorned with the venerated blue-red-blue colours of the Household Division, reflects the tenacity shown by the ground forces of British XXX Corps, led by Guards Armoured;

Oosterbeek

This port flavoured bonbon is a toast to the determination and sacrifice of the Air Despatchers of the Royal Army Service Corps who, together with aircrew of the Royal Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force, gave their lives in valiant attempts to resupply the airborne forces throughout the Battle of Arnhem;

Lt Col J D Frost DSO MC

Coloured in maroon, the iconic colour of British Airborne forces, and featuring a bold blackberry and apple flavour, this chocolate is a tribute to Lt Col J D Frost DSO MC's leadership of the 750 paratroopers who fought to hold Arnhem Bridge.

Golden Dakota (KG374)

Inspired by the story of “KG374”; flying, engines on fire, multiple times over the drop zone to resupply the isolated troops below.  This Jenever and zesty orange is in Remembrance of their sacrifice in the corner of a Dutch field.

Hartenstein

This chocolate celebrates the local population’s support and their resistance against Axis occupation in a celebration of typically Dutch flavours, vla and stropenwafel. It could only be coloured orange!
